Karen HastingsHi, im Karen Hastings and im a Senior mental health Occupational Therapist, with fourteen years post qualifying experience.  I studied Psychology at University and then went on to train as an Occupational therapist, graduating with a 1st class Honors in 2003.  I have always wanted to work in mental-health, so upon graduating, I took mental-health only jobs.   All Occupational Therapists in Britain have to be regulated and registered with the Health and Care Profession Council.  You can check at  www.hpc-uk.org

I have worked both in the NHS and since 2005, I have been working privately. Prior to moving to Edinburgh, I offered private therapy  in Hertfordshire, England.  During my time as an NHS therapist I worked for two NHS Trusts in Northamptonshire and for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mental Health Trust, working at Addenbrookes Hospital.

My background is working in the area of acute mental health services, with individuals experiencing illnesses such as severe depression, severe anxiety, Schizophrenia, Bi-polar Disorder, Personality Disorder and Psychosis.  During my time in the NHS I developed experience in providing cognitive therapy interventions both 1:1 and to groups. Since leaving the NHS and working privately, I have focused on womens mental well-being and work with women on mild-moderate mental health issues.  

 I have also undertaken hypnotherapy training.

Outside of work I'm mum to two young children.
